TWO people died in two separate road accidents that occurred in Gokwe Nembudziya and Gweru, the police have said.
In a statement, Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the first accident occurred on Friday afternoon while the other one occurred over the weekend.
Inspector Mahoko said on Friday, Tawanda Gopaza (35) was on board a bus that was coming from Mutora Business Centre in Gokwe.
As the bus approached his destination at the 5km peg, Gopaza moved closer to the bus door.
The bus conductor, Gilbert Chihumbiri, allegedly opened the door while the bus was still in motion.
“Gopaza jumped off the moving bus and fell. He died on the spot,” Inspector Mahoko said.
In the second incident, Unotida Mawimba (12) was on board a Nissan Tilda that was traveling to Gweru along the Gweru-Mvuma Road.
“Upon reaching the 69 km peg, the driver of the vehicle, Yevai Mtarahwai, tried to overtake a truck that was also overtaking another vehicle. Mtarahwai’s vehicle swerved to the right, veered off the road and overturned.”
Inspector Mahoko said Mawimba was thrown out of the vehicle and died on the spot. The other three passengers were trapped inside the vehicle.
“Police attended the two accident scenes. The bodies of the deceased and injured persons were taken to Gokwe and Gweru hospitals, respectively,” he said.
“We urge motorists to exercise extra caution when on the roads to avoid unnecessary loss of life.”
