VP Chiwenga to officially open the 7th Congress of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdiction of Africa (CJCA) in Victoria Falls

IT’S all set for the official opening of the 7th Congress of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdiction of Africa (CJCA) to be opened by Vice President General (Retired) Dr Costantino Chiwenga this morning.
More than 40 Chief Justices from across the region are attending.
The meeting started Wednesday afternoon with a closed session chaired by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.
The four-day meeting is being held under the theme: “Human dignity as a fundamental value and principle: A source of constitutional interpretation, protection of fundamental human rights and application” and will end on Saturday.
Delegates are trickling into the venue as they wait for the start of the official opening proceedings.
Welcoming delegates on Wednesday, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said Zimbabwe was pleased to host the event.
“The meeting represents our compliance with the adoption to achieve the objectives of the CJCA setting the tone for the now imminent 7th Congress. It is therefore with great pleasure that Zimbabwe is pleased to have you all at this particular and important meeting.
“Your presence here underscores our shared commitment to upholding the principles and objectives of the CCJA. The jurisdiction of Zimbabwe has keenly awaited the hosting of this meeting here in Victoria Falls. There is no doubt that our collective experience will contribute to advancing and entrenching the trajectory of the CCJA and constitutionalism in Africa,” he said.
He said this meeting is an advancement in the approach to uphold constitutionalism in Africa.
CJ Malaba said the meeting will be productive owing to the support of different jurisdictions, which have assured that there will be successful deliberations.
