VICE PRESIDENT Dr Kembo Mohadi has hailed the overwhelming support from Government, corporates and individuals towards the rehabilitation and construction of a state-of-the-art facility at Ingutsheni Central Hospital, following a successful fundraising luncheon held in Bulawayo on March 20.

The event, which raised US$2,1 million against a target of US$5 million, marks a significant step towards upgrading infrastructure and improving healthcare services at the country’s premier mental health referral institution.

Speaking after the luncheon, VP Mohadi said the contributions received would go a long way in transforming the hospital and enhancing patient care.

President Mnangagwa pledged US$1 million and farming equipment towards the initiative, while VP Mohadi contributed US$100 000, underscoring Government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health sector.

In a statement, the Office of the President and Cabinet commended all stakeholders for their generosity and collective effort.

“The Vice President, Honourable Colonel (Retd) Dr K.C.D. Mohadi extends his deepest and most sincere gratitude to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, corporates, institutions and individuals for generously contributing towards the success of the Ingutsheni Central Hospital Fundraising Luncheon,” the statement read.

“Your invaluable support, financial contributions, sponsorships, donations in cash or kind, and your presence on the day made a meaningful difference in advancing our shared goal of improving infrastructure and healthcare services at Ingutsheni Central Hospital.

“The funds raised will go a long way in enhancing infrastructure and patient care at Ingutsheni Central Hospital.

“Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo; Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi babo.”

Dr Nemache Mawere, the hospital’s chief medical officer, also expressed appreciation for the President’s attendance and the support from stakeholders, describing the occasion as historic.

“We are very grateful to host you as the first-ever Head of State to visit Ingutsheni. This visit and the luncheon will forever leave a legacy that will spur us to greater heights,” he said.

Dr Mawere said the institution was now poised to reclaim its status as a leading mental health facility in the region.

“Our vulnerable mental health patients need all the support available so that they are not left behind as Zimbabwe moves towards becoming an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

“We are very happy with the President’s contribution, and it is now time to deliver and complete what we started here at Ingutsheni.”
