VP Mujuru consoles Algerians

would like to express my deepest condolence on the passing on of the former President Chadli BendJedid to his family, and the people of Algeria,” wrote VP Mujuru.
“The former president will forever be remembered for the good works he did and accomplished during his time of leadership.”

In an interview soon after signing the book, VP Mujuru described the late Algerian leader as a luminary.
“He was one of the strongest fighters in Africa,” she said. “He was a real leader who stood for what he believed in.”

Algeria’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Lazher Soualem, commended the Government of Zimbabwe for sharing the grief with them.
He said 2012 had been a dark year for Algeria as it lost two former presidents.

The country lost Mr Ahmed Ben Bella in April.

Zimbabwe and Algeria have good bilateral relations dating back to the liberation struggle.
The North African country has been giving scholarships to Zimbabwean students with at least 450 of them currently studying in that country in various disciplines.
