VP Mujuru in Seychelles

Vice President Joice Mujuru arrived here yesterday and immediately paid a courtesy call on Seychelles Vice President, Mr Danny Faure, at State House.
VP Mujuru, who was met at the Mahe International Airport by Seychelles Investment, Natural Resources and Industry Minister Mr Peter Sinon, is on a four-day visit of this Indian Ocean Island to attend the International Carnival De Victoria – a tourism festival.
Also at the airport to welcome her was Tourism and Hospitality Industry Secretary, Dr Sylvester Maunganidze.
VP Mujuru’s delegation comprises Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi, Secretary in her office Mr Munesu Munodawafa and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Mr Karikoga Kaseke. During discussions with VP Faure, VP Mujuru called for closer bilateral and economic ties between the two countries, especially in the tourism sector where The Seychelles is excelling.
“You use tourism as the mainstay of your economy and this is an eye-opener to us. We are going to learn a lot from you. We have to build our relations and also share our experiences,” VP Mujuru said.
She invited The Seychelles to participate in October’s Sanganayi/Hlanganani tourism exhibition in Zimbabwe.
“I was invited as patron for the tourism sector in Zimbabwe. With this carnival, they (Seychelles) felt it was important for us to be able to learn what other countries have done,” she later told journalists.
VP Mujuru is today expected to meet The Seychelles President, Mr James Michel, before he officially opens the tourism carnival in the heart of Victoria.
Relations between Zimbabwe and The Seychelles are growing steadily with President Michel’s government naming one of the archipelago’s islands after Zimbabwe.
