come and vote for the party in the forthcoming July 31 2013 election.
Vice President Mujuru said this in Waterfalls, Harare on Monday evening where she was drumming up support for youthful candidate Cde Acie Lumumba who is representing the party in the Hatfield constituency.
“It touches me to see that we have young people who still want to participate in the development of their country and their constituencies. When I got to Parliament I was 24 years old, the same age that Lumumba wants to be a National Assembly member,” said Cde Mujuru.
She said it was critical to support the youths as they were the future leaders of the country.
“This age is still energetic and needs support. I was equally supported by President Mugabe when I was 20 years old, but now I am 58. As youths you should continue improving your education,” she said.
She commended Zanu-PF First Secretary President Mugabe for his humility after he extended a hand of reconciliation to white settlers upon the attainment of independence.
“After coming back upon independence, we saw many whites who had run away from farms in fear of reprisals. Some of our people wanted to mete out retribution but President Mugabe said no, and stood firm saying we should forgive each other,” she said.
She said it was critical that members of the party educate people on what the revolutionary party had done for the country. One notable achievement, she said, was education levels that have seen Zimbabwe being rated as the most literate country in Africa. She said Western countries, upon realising Zimbabwe’s continued growth in its literacy rate, imposed sanctions as part of efforts to frustrate the achievements made owing to high literacy rate.
This, she said, had seen most of the country’s industries closing.
“The Westerners then said to frustrate these efforts, let us impose sanctions. These sanctions are affecting people and have slowed the growth of various sectors including education,” she said.
The Vice President said the inclusive government was dysfunctional and the only thing it managed to achieve was the referendum and a new constitution.
The rally was also attended by Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Tendai Savanhu and Harare party provincial chairperson Cde Amos Midzi.
