Vubachikwe Mine has officially announced the commencement of a major expansion project: the construction of 30 new vat leach tanks.
This strategic investment is designed to significantly boost the mine’s gold processing capacity and extend its operational lifespan. At a recent Press briefing, mine spokesperson Robert Mukondiwa detailed the project, emphasising its dual focus on technological advancement and community development.
The new tank system will employ modern recovery technology to improve gold recovery rates from ore, making the operation more efficient and economically viable.

A cornerstone of the initiative is its substantial benefit to the local community.
Mukondiwa confirmed that although a specialised building contractor has been brought on board they have committed to a project workforce comprising at least 70 percent local labour.
This policy will create immediate employment opportunities for local youths, providing not only jobs but also valuable skills training in specialised construction techniques.
This approach ensures that a significant portion of the project’s investment will circulate within the local economy.
Beyond construction jobs, the project promises long-term economic stability.
By extending the mine’s life, it secures future employment and continues revenue for community programmes. Mukondiwa framed the project as “building futures,” demonstrating how strategic industrial investment can blend modern technology with community development to create sustainable value for all stakeholders.
