Vungu declares war on cattle rustlers

ZANU-PF Vungu Member of Parliament, Cde Omega Sibanda says they are battling a scourge of cattle rustlers in his constituency.

Cde Sibanda said a spate of stock theft cases had led them to engage the police, who have agreed to dispatch a team to assist in eradicating the menace.

“I recently met with ZRP Gweru Rural District Chief Superintendent Enthia Muzvidziwa to discuss the cattle rustling menace which has seen many villagers lose their livestock and it was agreed that police deploy a team to bring sanity.

Cattle are being stolen, killed and loaded into Honda Fit cars that do not have number plates and these people think we do not know them, but we know their identities and they will be arrested soon,” he said.

Cde Sibanda also expressed worry at the increasing murder and gender-based violence cases in Vungu, adding that he had engaged community leaders such as church elders, the elderly, councillors and traditional leaders to deal with the trend.

Cde Sibanda urged youths, particularly those who earn from gold proceeds, to use their proceeds wisely instead of engaging in fights that result in death in some cases.

“I was telling the youths their future is in their hands and they should invest their income wisely because they will one day wake up empty handed and with no opportunity to earn the same amounts they are earning today. There is no reason why they should be fighting for women because it only results in deaths,” he said.
