WABAZ embarks on awareness drive

would be a platform for local businesswomen to share ideas and network for the growth of women in Zimbabwe.
WABAZ deputy chairperson Ms Naome Chimbetete said this initiative was aimed at creating awareness among women in business, that is, to educate and inform them about their different businesses and also to provide solutions to the challenges affecting women in business.

“These Town Hall meetings are there to create awareness of the existence of the organisation and its total commitment to the different women’s associations out there,” she said.

Ms Chimbetete said women in Zimbabwe deserve more as they were hardworking in everything they do and are always determined to succeed.
“WABAZ is totally committed to the growth of women whether at grassroots level or the high/mainstream level,” she said.
WABAZ chairperson Ms Sithabile Mangwengwende highlighted that although women in Zimbabwe constituted 52 percent of the population they have always been discriminated against at especially at boardroom level.

The first meeting was held in Gweru on May 30.
Ms Mangwengwende said more meetings were scheduled for this month, with Chitungwiza, Bindura, Masvingo and Bulawayo on the radar.

WABAZ was formed in July last year under the auspices of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of connecting female entrepreneurs with the resources necessary to integrate them into the mainstream economy.

It emerged out of a study by University of Zimbabwe lecturer Dr Charity Manyeruke into the enabling environment and potential for women’s empowerment in the country.
