Wage dispute tears Transit Crew apart

Transit Crew now has one vocalist Tinashe Gamure, nephew to the late reggae crooner Culture T.
Munya Nyemba, one of the senior band members and bassist, confirmed the band was now defunct. “Yes, we lost Sithole and Chaza for reasons I don’t know yet. This is a blow to us and we are now focusing on Gamure. He is still young and talented but we need to nurture his talent.
“We have lost a number of contracts and things are not well for us as we going for two weeks without a show,” Nyemba said.
He, however, said they were not worried by the departure of the band members and would soon groom new singers.
Already, the group has lost its Friday slot at Mega 2 Westgate where they had a contract.
A number of local reggae musicians have passed through Transit Crew including the likes of sensational reggae musician Mike Madamombe aka Mic Inity, Solomon Tokwe, the late Tendai Gamure (Culture T), Junior Banton, Emmanuel Frank and keyboardist Jairos Hambahamba.
In 1989 Transit Crew had the privilege of playing alongside Culture, Eric Donaldson, and Ijahman Levi, who were all backed by RoughCuts Band here in Zimbabwe.
