Walking in Spirit: Be a Jonathan

John 15 vs 12-15; “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

Have you ever wondered why the Lord placed friends in your life? People you share so much with, who are there through your highs and lows. Most of us have one or two very loyal friends who, regardless of the circumstances, are always there, being a pillar of strength.

Life is filled with different situations, some parts can be so overwhelming that you have very few places to turn to other than the ear of a good friend, one who will not judge or add to your burden, but instead will be there to anchor and encourage you.

King David had Jonathan, someone who proved to be God-sent. During his lowest moments, he was always assured of Jonathan’s consideration and love. When all else seemed doomed he was certain Jonathan would always be there.

The Lord placed Jonathan in David’s life because He knew that there would be moments where he would need the loyalty of a genuine caring friend.

We all go through moments where we just need someone to help us see things differently, to help ease our pain and offer a second opinion, basically to play the God assigned role that they have been given in our lives.

Everyday we face different challenges that can sometimes drain the very life out of us. In moments like that a steadfast friend can be priceless.

It’s not every friend who is in your life that has been sent from above, but with those who are, you can clearly tell that this person is not just in your life for the sake of it. Something greater than one can see has made the association possible.

As you start another week, ask yourself what sort of friend you are, are you the kind of friend that is Heaven-sent? As you ponder on this, ask the Lord to help you be the friend He intended you to be; a constructive, loving, reliable friend who steers their friends in God’s direction.

Be blessed.
