NOT long ago I wrote about procrastination, which is defined as the action or habit of putting off things or delaying to do things that require immediate attention. So many people are caught up in this cycle where they achieve very little because they are always waiting to do things later. They are always waiting for that big wave that will change their lives.
There is an old saying that says “Look after the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.” Everything has a natural beginning, every race has a start and the building of every house starts with a foundation.
The same applies with most ideas, in order for them to come to life you must start by birthing them, then gradually nurse and develop them until they actualise. The process of bringing something to life is not easy; it’s often filled with all sorts of difficulties that can distract and discourage you.
Yesterday I met a young man that I had not seen in over 10 years. For the last 25 years he has been perfecting his small business. I remember when he started off with absolutely nothing, he chose to be determined, building his business brick by brick. He pressed on against the odds, remaining resolute in his belief that this was his calling.
Today, many years later, he has created a niche business where everybody turns to him, he is now a guru in his field. In the beginning when he was faced with challenges and obstacles he could have given up, but he chose to diligently walk the walk. He did the little things that have carried him along all these years to the point where he is today, the best in his industry.
We tend to give up easily the minute it becomes hard and all the forces of doom gang up on us, we want to run away and leave the fight for another day. However, we must remember that we serve an amazing God who will never forsake us, He may allow circumstances to challenge us and use experiences to mould us, but ultimately He will never leave us.
There is a fascinating advert that has a pay of line that says “keep walking”. This statement should always be in our minds, motivating us always. Just keep on walking don’t hope on tomorrow, do what has to be done today. Be blessed.
