LIBERATION war veterans, students and workers yesterday congratulated President Mugabe for a resounding victory in the just-ended harmonised elections. Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association chairman Cde Jabulani Sibanda said in a statement that they were looking forward to the new Government to lead the country to success.
“On behalf of the association, I would like to congratulate Team Zanu-PF led by the First Secretary of Zanu-PF, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces President Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe for a resounding victory in the harmonised elections,” he said.
The Zimbabwe Congress of Student Unions also congratulated President Mugabe, urging the people to unite for the betterment of the nation. Zicosu secretary-general Mr Leopold Chakanyuka said:
“Zicosu congratulates the people of Zimbabwe for displaying political maturity of the highest level by participating in the electoral process in a peaceful manner.”
The Federation of Trade Unions also sent its congratulatory message to President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for achieving a landslide in the elections.
ZFTU secretary-general Mr Ephraim Tsvaringe said in a statement that the victory further indicated that the country’s hard won independence and sovereignty were sacrosanct.
