IN what is probably a first in the history of the senior national soccer team, Zifa have barred the Warriors from talking to the media on certain days. No reason has been given for the media blackout as the Ian Gorowa-coached squad continues with its preparations for the 2014 African Nations Championship (Chan) that will be held in South Africa from January 11 to February 1.
According to a communiqué released by the association’s communications manager Xolisani Gwesela last night, journalists will only be allowed to talk to the players or the technical team on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to inform all members of the media that interviewing the Warriors and the technical team currently in camp preparing for the Chan tournament will be conducted only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“No media interviews will be allowed outside these days.
“The association respects members of the media and views them as key partners in developing football.
“We therefore appeal to our beloved colleagues from the Fourth Estate to respect this arrangement,” read the statement.
The Warriors trooped into camp on Monday and Gorowa will trim his 29 member squad to 23 after 10 days of intense preparations.
The Zimbabwe Warriors will be in Group B together with Uganda, Burkina Faso and Morocco with Athlone Stadium in Cape Town as their base until probably the quarter-final stage if Ian Gorowa manages to steer his charges all the way.
He has already declared that he wants to lift the trophy.
