THE Warriors will make their way down the tunnel in today’s Afcon qualifier against Kenya at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, seeking to get the job done without fail.

Creative and gritty Andy Rinomota is confident that the result will come in their favour.

“We have got our ourselves in a good situation and we are looking to finish the job against Kenya,” said Rinomota who is set to partner captain Marvelous Nakamba and Marshal Munetsi in the middle of the park. This a game that the Warriors will dedicate to the late goalkeeper George Chigova who died last year. The late Warriors goalkeeper made his name at the same stadium.

Ironic as it may be, 15 November, last year, was the day the big ex-Warriors keeper died in his sleep in Kyalami, Midrand.
A year later, on the very day, the Warriors will carry the hopes of this football loving nation. It is also at this very stadium that on 3 June, 2018, that Chigova touched the heavens during the Cosafa Cup quarter-final match against Botswana. He saved three consecutive penalties.

The Warriors progressed to the semis on a 3-1 scoreline in the penalty shootout and went on to win that year’s edition of the regional tournament.

Khama BILLIAT

Chigova spent a greater part of his playing career at Supersport United and Polokwane City.
Khama Billiat, who was so close to Chigova has vowed that this is the most important moment for them as they are also in a situation where the destiny is in their own hands.

Gifted Walter Musona is also upbeat.

The late George Chigova

“We are going there looking for a point and three points at most. Everyone is showing that they want to play, we have to do it for the nation and our loved ones,” said Musona.

Hordes of Warriors fans are expected to descend on Polokwane as the venue is just 300km from Johannesburg and only 200km from the border town of Beitbridge.

A draw will be enough to take the Warriors to the finals in Morocco next year. In their last game of the Afcon campaign, Zimbabwe will face Cameroon on November 19.
Cameroon, who have already qualified for Africa’s football extravaganza, played a nil all draw against Namibia on Wednesday.
