Warriors to get residential stands

defeat, by a one goal margin, will see Zimbabwe qualifying for the 2013 Nations Cup finals in South Africa next year.
Local Government, Rural and Urban  Development Minister Ignatius Chombo told The Herald yesterday that the Government had decided to play a big part in the Warriors’ quest for greatness.

“As the Ministry of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, we are supporting the national team in their efforts to qualify for the Nations Cup,” said Chombo.
“We will give each player a residential stand if they qualify for African Cup of Nations set for South Africa. We will give them a stand each in the northern suburbs.”
A residential stand in the leafy suburbs of Harare costs between US$20 000 and US$30 000 on average.
Chombo said the Mzansi90, a committee which has been tasked to mobilise resources to provide a package of incentives for the Warriors, approached him with the proposal.

“They approached me and I agreed that we should give the boys the stands if they qualify,” he said.
The Mzansi90 committee, which is chaired by Mbada Diamonds corporate executive, George Manyaya, had as of last night raised about US$344 000.
Manyaya confirmed from Johannesburg yesterday that the deal for the stands had been sealed.

“I can reveal, with a lot of pride, that the Mzansi90 committee has moved mountains and secured a very exclusive deal for our Warriors in our quest to inspire them to do the best for their country come Sunday,” said Manyaya.
“We have been talking to Minister Chombo and we are happy to reveal that we have agreed that residential stands in the Pomona area of Harare will be made available to the Warriors should they qualify for the Nations Cup finals in South Africa.

“This is the kind of empowerment that we want to see getting to our football players and we hope this will inspire our boys to really turn on the show in Angola.
“Redan gave us US$10 000, Ustrial US$500, Pentagon US$200 and Comoil US$1000. We are almost there, you can feel it and the the euphoria is almost there and the

Angolans must be in a sombre mood seeing the oneness that is there. We also have a fundaraising dinner dance at Rainbow Towers on Thursday night where each chair is costing US$100 so I urge the corprates to come in and support the cause of our Warriors,’’ Manyaya said.
