WHAT looked like a bottle of whiskey carried by Warriors defender Teenage Hadebe seen in a viral video circulating on social media could be at the centre of his suspension from the Mukuru Four-Nation Tournament final.
Hadebe was on Monday suspended for one match by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) after being found in breach of the team’s camp code of conduct.
In the now widely shared footage, midfielder Daniel Msendami is seen dancing to South African Amapiano star Scotts Maphuma’s music in what appears to be a team hotel room, while Mongameli Tshuma, Andrew Mbeba and captain Marvelous Nakamba are either seated or lying on a bed. Goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze also appears to be part of the relaxed setting.
oard next to where Msendami eventually sat on the bed, there is a glass of what appears to be whiskey. On the floor, from the mirror’s reflection, there is a half full whiskey glass and what looks like an energy drink just an arm’s length away from Tshuma and at the feet of Hadebe.
Hadebe, who is believed to have been filming the video, is visible through a mirror reflection holding what appears to be a bottle of whiskey — a development that has sparked suggestions of possible alcohol consumption during camp, which would contravene team regulations.
ZIFA has not explicitly linked the video to the disciplinary action, but the defender has since apologised and accepted the one-match suspension.
He will miss Zimbabwe’s final clash against Zambia at Obed Itani Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, on Tuesday, with kickoff set for 3pm CAT.
