AMERICAN adventurer Eddie Bond arrived at Victoria Falls on Saturday, completing the Zimbabwean leg of his walk from Cape Town to Cairo.
His journey, however, has become far more than a solitary feat as it transformed into a celebration of unexpected camaraderie and profound national hospitality.
Bond, driven by a pure thirst for adventure, arrived in Victoria Falls after a two-week walk from Bulawayo.
This stretch was uniquely defined by the company of two locals who joined his mission: Dr. Gasolo, who met him at Plumtree, and conservationist Nqobile ‘The Rhino Man’ Mkhwananzi, who linked up at Kenmore.
“My whole time in Zimbabwe I have been accompanied by locals who said we must get behind this, we must be a part of this story,” said.
He described the experience as an eye-opener, praising the overwhelming community support from schools, councils, and artists.
For Dr Gasolo, whose own ‘Long Walk to Success’ champions local creatives, joining Bond was a natural synergy.
“We are showing Eddie the Ubuntu that we have in Zimbabwe,” he said.
He highlighted the journey as a showcase of the nation’s welcoming spirit and rich culture.
Mkhwananzi brought a vital conservation message, using the trek to advocate for reviving environmental clubs in schools.
He also issued a plea to keep the nation’s highways litter-free, noting its importance for tourism.
