Busters Sports Club was buzzing on Saturday afternoon as Bulawayo’s football legends traded passes and banter with Harare bankers in a sizzling social soccer clash that ended 4-2 in favour of the financiers.
The friendly match pitted the Bulawayo Football Ambassadors, a team of former Premier Soccer League stars, against the CABS social team, bringing together fitness, fun, and nostalgia in one sunny afternoon.

Bulawayo’s star-studded side featured household names like Herbert Dick, Danisa Phiri, Gift Lunga Jnr, Siza Khoza, Wonder Mpofu, Johannes Ngodzo, and Voster Chitema, who showed they still have plenty of flair left in their boots.
CABS sports coordinator David Nkata said the match was part of the bank’s wellness drive. “As a company we value the importance of sport in the wellbeing of our employees. Playing keeps them fit and allows them to interact with others, which is great for mental health too,” he said.

He said the Harare-based team’s trip to Bulawayo was also about inspiration. “Meeting football idols like these guys motivates our staff to embrace sport and healthy living,” Nkata said.
Former Highlanders defender Danisa Phiri said the social games help the retired stars stay in shape and connected. “We’re now in our forties and fifties, but social soccer keeps us going. It’s a great way to exercise, laugh, and catch up,” he said.

The match ended with smiles all round as proof that football isn’t just a game, it’s a lifestyle.
