THE Highlanders 100 Years Golf Tournament teed off at a chilly Bulawayo golf course on Friday morning, with more than 100 golfers taking part in the high-profile event.
Highlanders 100 Years marketing committee chairman Chiku Mulinde said the tournament had attracted golfers from across the country and beyond, with 28 players travelling from South Africa to take part.
The South African contingent competes under the Amahlalonyama Golf Society, which has previously supported Highlanders financially.
Mulinde said the tournament had also attracted strong representation from the Mthwakazi Golf Society in Harare, which is among the sponsors of the event.
He said the tournament was part of the club’s centenary celebrations and would also benefit former Highlanders players and the club’s junior development structures.
“This is one of the major events as we celebrate 100 years of Highlanders. We are grateful to all the golfers, sponsors and supporters who have come on board to make this tournament a success,” said Mulinde.
The golf tournament is part of a series of activities lined up to mark Highlanders’ centenary celebrations, with a marathon, musical gala and sports festival also planned for the final third of the year.
The activities are expected to bring together Bosso supporters, former players, members of the community and other stakeholders as the club celebrates a century of existence.
