Bulawayo Chiefs 2-0 Yadah

A BRACE by Billy Veremu powered Bulawayo Chiefs to finish in position seven, the best they have ever achieved in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after victory over Yadah yesterday in their last match of the season.

The victory for Amakhosi Amahle took their points tally to 49, the best they have accumulated since their maiden appearance in the PSL in 2018.

In their first season in the PSL, Chiefs ended on position 12 and in 2019 they were number 13 and in both seasons they amassed 41 points.

The win for Chiefs means that they head into Sunday’s Chibuku Super Cup final against Herentals with their confidence levels high.

Veremu opened his goal account in the 16th minute with a simple tap in off an Elvis Moyo corner kick.

The lanky forward then completed his brace three minutes into the second half guiding the ball into an empty net after a cutback by Perfect Chikwende.

Chiefs who went on to fluff a number of scoring opportunities, with second half substitutes Obriel Chirinda and Dela Akorli wasting a number of scoring chances.

Chiefs assistant coach Thulani Sibanda was ecstatic about the victory, adding that their focus shifts to Sunday’s Chibuku Super Cup final.

“It was a good game and finishing on position seven is an achievement because we’ve never done that before.

“As for this game, the boys started slowly and in the first 20 minutes Yadah wanted it more than us but we came to the party and got this victory. Now our focus is on Chibuku Super Cup. You could tell from our substitutions that we were reserving energy for some of our boys with the final in mind.

“I’ll say this victory is a boost heading to the Chibuku Super Cup and it gives us confidence. It makes us believe that we can do it in the final,” said Sibanda.

The Chiefs coach said they are going to attend to some of their mistakes during the week.

Chiefs missed the services of suspended utility player Kelvin Madzongwe who missed the last league match of the season after accumulating three yellow cards.

They had to pull out their best player of the season Mthokozisi Msebe, Chikwende, anchorman Lucky Ndlela and Veremu in the second half, reserving their energy for the final.

Yadah rarely troubled Chiefs’ goalkeeper Matripples Muleya, with the backline of MacClive Phiri, Elvis Moyo, Kevin Moyo and skipper Malvin Mkolo resolute. Their coach, Genesis Mangombe snubbed the post-match press conference and could face sanctions from the PSL.
