Starting from the city centre, the team distributed flyers with some performing artistes including Mzoe 7 and Ma9nine performing on board the activation truck, as the team made their way to the western areas. They made stops at shopping centres where various activities were held.

Participants had the opportunity to win prizes ranging from Mr Sinkwa loaves of bread to branded Harris Entertainment t-shirts designed for the Bulawayo Shutdown, as well as VIP entry tickets to the upcoming show scheduled for April 27.

The team observed a moment of silence in front of the late Cal Vin’s mural in Luveve as a tribute to the legendary artiste.

It is noteworthy that there is an abundance of talent going to waste on the streets. During a stop at Luveve 5 koMpofu shopping centre, two boys from the audience battled it out performing Mzoe 7’s track “Asambeni” and Ma9ine’s track “Windi Womtshova”, leaving the crowd clamouring for more.

In Cowdray Park, people were thrilled to meet with the Groove on Wheels team, with some remarking on the excellent timing of the roadshow, coinciding with the nation’s celebratory mood. Big Boy Mathuthu from Cowdray Park shared his thoughts on the roadshow and Independence Day:

“We are truly enjoying the fruits of Independence. This roadshow itself is a testament to our freedom. During our youth, there were restrictions; you would never see a show like this. The black man had no joy. Now, we even have fertile land for farming, and even in the face of drought, we know the government will support us, unlike the colonial government, which did not regard us as human beings,” said Mathuthu.

The final stop for the roadshow was the renowned Samuriwo’s chillspot at Chigumira shopping centre, where two ladies, Melody Ncube and Emmaculate Chituwa, who battled it out on the dance floor, walked away with VIP entry tickets to the shutdown show.

The roadshow continues today, with the team covering other areas around the city, leading up to the main event.

Today’s proceedings will conclude at Chicken Corner, where more tickets will be distributed to lucky winners.
