A 52-year-old Bulawayo woman, Ms Miriam Mhlanga is appealing for financial assistance after she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which has reached stage 3A.
Ms Mhlanga, from Pumula South, said she does not have the funds required to do X-ray scans and treatment processes. She was diagnosed with the deadly disease six months ago.
“I was diagnosed with cancer, which has reached stage 3A. It has spread. I need to do a spinal cord X-ray, which is US$750 and a kidney X-ray, which costs US$300. Unfortunately, I do not have that kind of money; therefore, I am appealing for financial assistance before things get worse. I also need to do chemotherapy, which costs US$250,” she said.
Due to the severe spread, Ms Mhlanga cannot do an operation.
Uterine cancer includes two types of cancer: endometrial cancer (more common) and uterine sarcoma (rare). Uterine cancer symptoms include bleeding between periods or after menopause. Treatment often consists of a hysterectomy to remove your uterus.
Endometrial cancer is the most common cancer affecting the reproductive system of women. Endometrial cancer mainly develops after menopause. About 3% of women will receive a diagnosis of uterine cancer at some point during their lives. Each year, about 65 000 women receive a diagnosis.
