Lungu we’ll miss you dearly

I HAD the privilege of attending school with a remarkable individual who would later become a leader of our nation. We were schoolmates at Mukuba Secondary School, same stream, in Kitwe, under the guidance of our headmaster, Mr Brown.

He was a quiet and humble student, but his kindness, generosity and conscientiousness were evident even back then. Little did we know that he would one day hold the highest office in the land.

As President, he demonstrated his commitment to his alma mater, by renovating and refurbishing the school to modern standards.

It’s a testament to his character and dedication to giving back. Life often surprises us with its twists and turns. While some of our classmates were more outgoing and boisterous, it was this quiet and unassuming individual, who would rise to greatness. We’ll miss him dearly.

May his legacy live on, and may his soul rest in peace. I’d like to mention a few friends, who were part of our school days: Joe Sichone, Boyd Maliki, Aaron Sakamba, Jack Lumpag and a host of others, too many to list. May cherished memories of our friend and leader be a blessing to us all.” Burton Waza Phiri, Blantyre, Malawi
