A new breed of brave hearts has joined the country’s firefighting ranks. Thirty-five recruit firefighters from six Rural District Councils graduated at Famona Fire Station in Bulawayo today.
The recruits, drawn from Tsholotsho, Hwange, Binga, Matobo, Insiza and Kusile RDCs, were trained by the Bulawayo Fire Brigade, a unit famed for its world-class fire and rescue expertise.
Among the graduates are 26 men and nine women who endured months of grueling drills, blazing heat and tough simulations to earn the right to wear the firefighter’s badge.
Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe was the guest of honour at the ceremony, which also drew top officials including Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube and Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu.
The recruits are expected to return to their districts better equipped to tackle fires, floods and other emergencies that threaten rural communities.
With fresh energy, discipline and courage, these men and women are ready to prove that the country’s firefighting spirit is burning brighter than ever.
