FORMER Southern Region Area Zones delegate at the Zifa Assembly, Charles Chunda has died.
Chunda died at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo on Sunday evening.
He was 65.

According to his daughter, Natasha, her dad, complained of a bout of influenza and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where his condition deteriorated following a rise in his blood pressure levels.

Chunda worked for organisations such as National Foods, Barons Motor Spares, Zimpapers (Chronicle) and Zulu Lithium whom he left at the beginning of the year.

He suffered a mild stroke at the beginning of 2026.

According to Natasha his dad was born in Bulawayo and was raised at Mpopoma Suburb and when his mother left for Malawi, he spent a bit of time in Hwange before returning to Bulawayo for his secondary education at Mpopoma High School.

She spoke about her father’s passion for football and love for family, describing him as his best friend.

“I lost my father on Sunday evening after a short illness, it is sad to have lost him that way because he was not sick, I am really hurting, but I have to stay strong for my mum and brother,” said Natasha.

She described her father as a jolly person.

“He was a jolly person, a kind person who loved people, he was humble, if you had a problem Charles would jump and help, he was a loving father, a friend, I always told people that he was my best friend,” said Natasha.

She said Chunda’s body will lie in State at his Iminyela Flats home tomorrow with the church service set for Baptist Church in Mzilikazi on Friday.

Chunda, a former footballer who played for Red Seal and several other lower division clubs, was at one stage a long serving member of the Bulawayo Amateur Football Association. He was secretary-general and chairman.

Chunda played for Amavevane, Chronicle (Editorial) and Chronicle NGA in the social leagues.

His successful tenure saw him represent the region at national level.
