HOMEGROUND Darts Club from Mashonaland West emerged the biggest winners at the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Inkomo Open Tournament held at Bellevue Sports Club over the weekend, walking away with the coveted beast first prize.

The unique two-day event, which started at midday on Saturday and ended around 11AM on Sunday, drew top darts talent from across the country. It was the first time the Bulawayo Metropolitan Darts Board, led by Ian Nyathi, hosted a tournament where prizes included beasts, goats, and chickens.

Provincial board chairperson Debra Shumba led the dominant Homeground side to victory in the marathon competition, which attracted keen interest from across the provinces.

Organising secretary and tournament spokesperson Collen Zvimbvatu described the event as a resounding success despite a few logistical hurdles.

“I would like to think it was a successful event with unique prizes. It being the first of its kind in terms of prizes, it had its fair share of challenges here and there. The challenge lay on resources, but logistics-wise, it was super,” said Zvimbvatu.

The National Darts Association of Zimbabwe president, Mennard Moyo, drove from Harare to witness the high-stakes action in Bulawayo.

The organisers sponsored the event to the tune of US$1 000, marking a milestone in local darts promotion.
