AN ALERT member of the public helped in apprehending a pickup truck which had five carcasses of beasts after he called out members of the public to assist in effecting citizen arrest.
While Shepherd Ncube was at his workplace in Nkulumane suburb he noticed a truck which had parked suspiciously near the precast wall of his workplace. It is said Ncube went to the vehicle and it had three occupants including a driver.
“Upon reaching the vehicle he noticed that there were two males and a driver. While he was talking to the driver he noticed that the canopy of the truck had carcasses. Ncube requested to see the documents which authorized them to carry carcasses. While he was talking to the driver, the two males offered to bribe him so that he could let them go but he refused,” said the source.
It is alleged that the driver started the ignition to drive off but Ncube held the steering wheel.
“The driver ( Bhekilizwe Nyathi) pulled out an axe and hit him with the back of it on the mouth. Ncube fell down. The driver drove off but the determined Ncube rose up quickly and ran to the truck before holding onto the canopy while calling out members of the public to help in effecting citizen arrest,” said the source.
The source added: “Members of the public heard the calls and came out in large numbers to assist. They pursued the vehicle until the driver stopped near Phekiwe River in Nkulumane suburb before he and his accomplices bolted out the car and ran for their dear lives. Members of the public pursued them and caught the driver but failed to catch the two males. They took the driver to Nkulumane Police Station leading to his arrest.”
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and appealed for information which could lead to the arrest of the two suspects who are on the run.
The five carcasses were branded ME1 which is the area brand Hopefountein.
