WATCH: Marufu undergoing coaching courses

FORMER Zimbabwe International striker, Phillip ‘The Hitman’ Marufu says the ongoing CAF D coaching course has been an eye-opening experience for him as he transitions from playing into coaching.

He is part of the 38 budding coaches who are undertaking a 10-day coaching course that ends tomorrow in the Midlands capital.

Renowned coaching instructor and former mighty Warriors midfielder, Sithethelelwe ‘Kwinji 15’ Sibanda is taking the participants through the course which provides the base for coaching.

And Marufu reckons that coaching is a different kettle of fish unlike playing, adding that being a coach takes a lot of composure and emotional intelligence.

“Playing and coaching are totally two different worlds,” he told the Zimpapers Sports Hub.

“Teaching someone to do something is different from executing it yourself, as a player you rely mostly on your intuition, talent and hard work to navigate past situations in matches.

“But as a coach it takes a lot for you to pass that same knowledge to the player so that they execute in the manner you want it done.”

The former Chapungu, Dynamos, FC Lupopo speedy winger added that football is fast changing, and urged former players to enroll for their coaching badges.

He further said that he aspires to reach the highest level in his coaching career.

“The football world fast changing, players must enroll for coaching early, despite having knowledge as players if we are not qualified, we will not be allowed in coaching, I urge my colleagues to get their papers in order.

“Personally, I’m looking forward to carrying on with my education as a coach and hope that one day I can coach at the highest level and contribute to the game,” he said.

Other notable former players also part of the coaching course include former Caps United and Chapungu defender, Blessing Zabula, Blessed Mbavarira, Brighton Mugoni and Moenda Muchingami.

Former Gunners, Buffaloes, Shabanie player Michael Mageja is also part of the group together with Jimmy Tigere, Smart Muchabaiwa and Lennon Chisunga.
