Representatives from Matabeleland’s provinces — Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland North, and Matabeleland South — have made their mark at the Chibuku Road to Fame 2024 national finals with captivating performances.

Eleven groups from Zimbabwe’s ten provinces are competing this year, with each province represented by one act except for Mashonaland Central, which has two groups due to a “technical problem”, according to the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ).

Bulawayo Metropolitan’s group, the third act of the event, showcased the Afro-traditional genre with a unique blend of ancient and contemporary sounds. Matabeleland North’s Kweseka Band, the ninth group to perform, displayed passion as an Afro-fusion ensemble that travelled extensively to reach the finals.

The Fugees from Beitbridge, representing Matabeleland South, took the stage as the tenth act and are strong contenders for the title. Their sungura performance had the Glamis Arena crowd dancing and could give them an edge if crowd support plays a role in determining the winners.

More to follow.
