TRANSPORT and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona is today (Friday) leading a ministerial tour of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road to assess progress on the ongoing rehabilitation and upgrading works along the strategic highway.
The tour is aimed at evaluating progress, identifying challenges affecting the projects and engaging implementing agencies on measures to accelerate construction in line with the country’s development priorities under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
The delegation includes Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry T. Mnangagwa, and other senior Government officials and stakeholders.
The tour follows the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA)’s securing of a US$400 million loan facility from a leading financial institution to finance the rehabilitation of three major highways — Harare-Beitbridge, Harare-Chirundu and Bulawayo-Victoria Falls.
The Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway is a key transport corridor linking the country’s second-largest city with Matabeleland North and the tourism hub of Victoria Falls.
Its rehabilitation is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and support tourism and wider economic activity.
