South African legend actor Setlhabi Taunyane, famously known for playing Bra Kop on Rhythm City, has opened up about his marital and family dynamics as he disclosed that his wife is Zimbabwe and his family didn’t approve of their affair.

The veteran thespian was speaking on the King David Podcast which is hosted by celebrated broadcaster David Mashabela.

Despite the challenges faced, Taunyane expresses his determination to navigate the complexities of their relationship.

He said that their marriage is “seventeen years old now,” while also shedding light on the ongoing struggles, recounting instances of exclusion from family gatherings due to his wife being perceived as an “outsider.”

“I just heard that one of my cousins in Diepkloof was getting married two weeks ago and no one phoned me,” he said.

He acknowledges the impact of this exclusion by saying, “Once you are abandoned by the family, this issue extends beyond familial boundaries.

“Despite all these toxicities, I’m trying my best, especially because my wife is from Zimbabwe.” “We have suffered because she’s from Zimbabwe. It hasn’t changed because I’m married to lekwerekwere (outsider),” said Bra Kop.

The former Muvhango actor also narrated how he met his soulmate.

“Because of black consciousness and Africanism in me, I always wanted to marry either a Ghana or a Zimbabwean woman. While I was still searching, I once met a Jamaican woman who turned down my proposal as she said she will marry a man from his country.

“I also met a woman from Ghana and she said the same. I then met my wife while she was selling magwinya (fat cook) at a market. I saw her running and my heart started beating up fast.

“I ran towards her and asked to talk to her. She was in a rush. I then asked for her phone number because I really saw something unique in her. We exchanged numbers and she visited me once at my house and I cooked for her. The rest is risk,” said Bra Kop.
