WATCH: Rally behind ED’s Vision 2030 – Mohadi

ZANU-PF vice-president Kembo Mohadi has urged all citizens to rally behind President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 whose aim is to uplift the lives of everyone regardless of political affiliation.

Cde Mohadi, who is also the party’s second secretary, said this yesterday at the Zanu-PF provincial offices in Lupane, Matabeleland North following a closed-door meeting with Zanu-PF leaders from the province.

The meeting was attended by the party’s leadership from both the national executive to grassroot structures under strict Covid-19 regulations.

All those who attended were tested for Covid-19.

Cde Mohadi said the meeting was part of his nationwide engagement with Zanu-PF provincial leadership structures as the ruling party seeks to strengthen its base.

He said the governing party is focused on transforming people’s lives hence citizens should rally behind people centred transformational projects in line with the President’s vision.

Cde Mohadi said Zanu-PF members are expected to explain Government programmes to the masses.

“We do explain to them, a leader without a vision is just as good as a dead leader. The President came up with vision 2030, and has said, because the vision has got to encompass everybody, he said by 2030, he would like to see a situation whereby every Zimbabwean across the board regardless of the political affiliation are on an upper middle-income level of development. That alone harnesses people to work hard. We all need to work hard towards the attainment of that,” said Cde Mohadi.

He said infrastructural development projects being implemented by Government are part of Zanu-PF’s vision of improving people’s lives at grassroot levels.

“All what Government is doing is moving towards attaining that. You take for instance the Beitbridge-Churundu Road, it’s a pleasure driving on the finished part of the road and we believe by the end of the first quarter of the coming year 292km towards Harare would have been done. The Second Republic is a hands-on Government.

Everything is happening just recently; we were touring the fertiliser manufacturing plant in Ruwa. So eventually, we are going to be self-sufficient on a number of projects,” he said.

Cde Mohadi said Matabeleland North is among the biggest beneficiaries of development projects under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.

He said it was satisfactory that most residents in the province appreciate Government programmes, meaning the ruling party is living to its expectations.

“Matabeleland North is a province that is quite endowed with a lot of resources and people are very much appreciative of what is happening in Hwange Unit 7 and 8. The people are also appreciative of what the Zanu-PF Government is doing in rehabilitation of roads and development of new irrigation schemes. They are also appreciative that Gwayi-Shangani Dam is nearing completion,” said Cde Mohadi.

He said the completion of Lake Gwayi-Shangani will transform the Matabeleland region.

“It was reported to me that maybe by the end of the year it will be completed so once it is completed, we are looking at about 10 000 hectares of land being irrigated and once the Gwayi-Shangani-Bulawayo pipeline is completed we are looking forward to having quite a number of irrigation projects along the side of the pipeline. We are going to have a greenbelt. The perennial problem of drought and lack of food and grain is going to be a thing of the past, so they are appreciative of all that. All this has been done within a period of three years,” he said.

Cde Mohadi called for unity and cohesion within Zanu-PF as the party embarks on strengthening its structures.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said the visit by the party’s deputy president and second secretary was critical for revamping the party.

“He has encouraged us to mobilise for the five million votes that we are targeting as a party for the 2023 elections. He was proposing strategies that we could adopt as a party as we move towards 2023. Some of the issues that were raised during the meeting include the divisions that arise especially when a leadership vacancy post opens up. Sometimes, this leads to unhealthy jostling for power and the vice president advised party members not to forget that no one is bigger than the party. We should all work towards rebuilding the party,” said Cde Moyo.

After the meeting, Cde Mohadi among other senior party leaders toured under construction Lupane Provincial Hospital to assess progress.

The party’s vice-president said all hands should be on the deck to ensure that projects are completed for the benefit of the generality of citizens. — @nqotshili
