BOOM! Just like that, an English Premier League legend lands in Bulawayo and the city can’t stop talking!
Former Arsenal and England hardman Sol Campbell has touched down in the City of Kings, and officials say it’s a massive win for sports tourism!
The towering ex-defender, famous for his no-nonsense style at Arsenal and Spurs, was spotted at the Bulawayo Country Club, cheering on his daughter at an International Tennis Federation (ITF) event.
“This is HUGE for Bulawayo,” beamed Kholwani Moyo, the City Council’s economic development chief. “Sol Campbell’s presence puts us on the map. It’s proof that Bulawayo is ready for international sporting eyes!”
Moyo says this could spark a new era for sports tourism in the city, urging local sports codes to start dreaming bigger: “Today it’s Sol Campbell, tomorrow it could be Serena or Ronaldo!”
Campbell, who starred in two World Cups and lifted two Premier League titles, kept a low profile—but couldn’t escape the local excitement.
Locals snapped selfies, kids gasped, and city officials smiled all the way to the tourism stats.
Could this be the beginning of Bulawayo’s sports tourism revolution? If Sol’s visit is anything to go by, the beautiful game might just have a new home-away-from-home… right here in B-Town!
