SPORT and Recreation Commission (SRC) board member Dave Simba has applauded the organisers of the ORAP Zenzele Isuzu Under-20 Football Tournament, describing it as one of the country’s most important schools’ competitions for nurturing young football talent.
Speaking on the sidelines of the tournament at Gifford High School, Mr Simba commended ORAP Zenzele and its partners for consistently investing in grassroots football, saying the competition provides a vital platform for young players to showcase their abilities while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.
“This tournament is playing a significant role in developing future football stars. It gives learners from different provinces an opportunity to compete at a high level, gain valuable experience and be identified by clubs and national team selectors. We need more initiatives like this because they strengthen the country’s talent development pathway,” said Mr Simba.
He added that the SRC remains committed to supporting grassroots sport, noting that school competitions are the foundation for producing elite athletes capable of representing the country on the international stage.
