ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 marketing manager Tinotenda Mawoyo says the ongoing trophy tour is meant to take the global showpiece closer to the people while rallying Zimbabweans to support the game’s future stars.

Speaking during the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup trophy tour in Bulawayo on Monday, Mawoyo said parading the trophy through the city was part of efforts to create awareness and excitement ahead of the tournament, which gets underway on January 15.

“This is all about the trophy tour. We have the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup trophy with us and we paraded it through the streets, showing the fans and the people the trophy, while also putting out information about the tournament,” said Mawoyo.

“We are talking about the start date, the venues, the matches and the teams that will be playing at the different grounds. We are really excited about this time.”

Zimbabwe will co-host the prestigious youth tournament with Namibia, with matches in the country set to be played at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Sports Club. All matches will be free of charge.

Mawoyo stressed the importance of informing the public early, noting that the Under-19 World Cup offers fans a chance to witness tomorrow’s international stars.

“It’s massively important for people to know what’s going on ahead of time. This is an Under-19 tournament and we will be witnessing future stars. We want as many people as possible to come out and support,” he said.

He also highlighted the historic nature of the event, which marks the first time Zimbabwe is hosting the tournament.

“It’s the first time that Zimbabwe is hosting this World Cup. We are truly excited and we are calling on people to come out in their numbers, come to the grounds, support Zimbabwe and support the future of cricket around the world.”

Beyond the action on the field, Mawoyo said the tournament presents an opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its culture and hospitality to visiting teams and officials.

“The young players coming through will have an opportunity to be in Bulawayo and Harare. Let’s show them true Zimbabwean culture, our cuisine and our hospitality,” he said.

The trophy tour is part of build-up activities as the countdown to the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 continues.
