Botswana musician, “Vee Mampeezy”, renowned for his hit song Taku Taku, has announced plans to stage a solo performance in Bulawayo, following the immense support he received during his appearance at the Swan Music Festival, held at White City Stadium in the city, this past weekend.

Mampeezy, born Odirile Ishmael Sento, shared the stage with prominent artistes such as Alick Macheso, Awa Khiwe, Winky D, Kwesta and Toss, among others.

Speaking on the sidelines of the show, he fondly reminisced about his long-standing connection with Bulawayo, revealing the city was the first place in Zimbabwe to embrace him when he performed there two decades ago.

“I was overwhelmed by the support I received at White City Stadium. The crowd was incredibly lively and they sang along to nearly every song. It was emotional to see that Bulawayo still holds me in such high regard after all these years,” Mampeezy said.

“My first gig outside Botswana was here in Bulawayo and they’ve supported me ever since. I want to show my gratitude by hosting a solo show here to celebrate the special bond we share.”

The artiste expressed his deep affection for Bulawayo and Zimbabwe, and his excitement about the prospect of collaborating with local promoters to bring his solo show to life.

Vee Mampeezy began his music career at the age of 16 and released his debut album Kasi Angels in 2001, which quickly became a hit. His unique blend of kwaito, gospel and house music has earned him a loyal following across the continent. He lists musical icons like Brenda Fassie, Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi, among his influences.

Throughout his career, Mampeezy has collaborated with a range of notable African artistes, including the late South African kwaito legend Mandoza and Nigerian dancehall star, Patoranking.
