A WOMAN was forced to jump from the first floor of a burning building in Bulawayo’s central business district on Wednesday as she tried to escape the raging fire.
The woman was rescued by members of the public who gathered outside the building and caught her as she jumped, helping to break her fall.

The fire broke out at a building along Leopard Takawira Avenue between George Silundika Street and Fife Street at about 1.15PM, sending thick clouds of smoke across the city centre.

One of the rescuers said the woman had no other option but to jump from the first floor as the fire spread through the building.

The extent of the damage, the condition of the woman and the cause of the fire were not immediately known.
