THE Association for International Sport for All (Tafisa) regional body for Southern Africa, in conjunction with the Sport and Recreation Commission completed a five-module course on the Girls Safe and Positive Coaching Pathways programme.

Participants from the North and South Regions of Zimbabwe attended three modules virtually, with the last two modules, Coaching Her and Safeguarding, done in class with sessions in Harare and Bulawayo, respectively.

Among the tutors was Goratha Kgathi from the Tafisa regional office in Gaborone, Botswana and Busani Ncube, the Western Panthers Rugby Club coach.

Sam Dzvimbu, the Bulawayo Sport and Recreation Commission officer, said they were committed to safe sport for the vulnerable, in most instances being the Girl Child.
“We have had three modules done virtually, and the last two, participants numbering 20 from the region, took part today (Friday). Harare had a session yesterday (Thursday). Hopefully, when they go out, they will share with others and make our sport better for girls,” said Dzvimbu.

Kgathi said women’s sport appears to be on the rise in the region and that the girls must partake in sport in a safer environment where there is no physical and emotional abuse.

Participants were taught how to deal with girls in a manner that promotes their participation and breaks barriers.
