WATCH: ZINARA funds major road upgrades in Victoria Falls

VICTORIA Falls is undergoing a road rehabilitation programme, funded by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA), with focus on two major routes in the city’s low-density and industrial areas.

ZINARA allocated a budget of ZWG 6.6 million to the city council, with ZWG 3.4 million utilised by September last year, representing a 52 percent utilisation rate.

A budget of 10 358 litres of fuel was also set aside, with 5 000 litres already disbursed for the works by September 2025.
The key projects involve the resealing of Ramsey road in the industrial area (0.4km) and Courtney Selous road (1.4km) in a low-density suburb.
Masimba Holdings is the contracted contractor carrying out the works on behalf of the council.

City Engineer Bongani Dube explained the scope and necessity of the project during a site visit by this newscrew on Wednesday afternoon.

“We have been funded by ZINARA to do this reseal project. The reason is to increase the lifespan of these critical access roads,” said Eng Dube.
He detailed that preliminary works, including pothole patching and crack sealing, were completed before the resealing.

“This seal coat strengthens the road, extending its lifespan by over three years. Our goal is to keep our entire network trafficable and in good condition,” Eng Dube added.
Beyond these major reseals, Eng Dube said the ZINARA funding has enabled extensive routine maintenance across the city.

This includes drain cleaning, vegetation control, and gravelling of roads within location areas.
“Through ZINARA, we are ensuring our roads are safe for motorists and tourists alike. As a premier tourist destination, maintaining quality infrastructure is paramount,” he said.

The ongoing upgrades are a concerted effort to preserve and enhance the city’s infrastructure, supporting both local mobility and Victoria Falls’ status as a world-class tourism hub.
