When Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company chairman Busisa Moyo received the keys to his brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR, valued at US$200 000, many saw a moment of celebration and recognition. But for Moyo, it became a moment of reflection and responsibility, a spark to pay it forward in a meaningful way.
The vehicle, handed over at Faramatsi Motors in Harare, came as a token of appreciation from businessman Wicknell Chivayo, following the resounding success of the 65th edition of the ZITF, dubbed the Blue Sapphire edition. The trade showcase held last month, attracted over 800 exhibitors from more than 30 countries, cementing Bulawayo’s place on the continental map as a regional business hub.
While accepting the generous gift, Moyo expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chivayo, government officials, and the leadership that made it possible. But he did not stop there. In a rare public display of moral introspection, he turned the spotlight away from the luxury SUV and onto the needs of underserved communities.
“I’m really challenged by what Mr Chivayo has done. He has done for us what he is passionate about, and he’s challenging us to do for others what we are passionate about,” Moyo said.
In that spirit, Moyo pledged to mobilise resources with like-minded peers to support rural education, specifically targeting under-resourced classrooms.
“I’m going to look at classrooms in rural areas with a few of my friends to join me, so that we bring value to the community,” he vowed, turning personal gratitude into a public commitment.
At a similar handover last week, ZITF chief executive officer Dr Nicholas Ndebele also received a Land Cruiser from Chivayo and echoed similar sentiments of appreciation.
“This recognition is an encouragement and endorsement of the work that was put into preparing for ZITF,” Dr Ndebele said, referencing the hard work behind curating the region’s largest multi-sectoral trade event.
For his part, Wicknell Chivayo, who has become known for honouring high-performing individuals in both government and corporate spaces, said his gestures are not about extravagance but celebrating excellence and leadership.
