A DARING home invasion in Waterfalls, Harare, has ended in agony for two robbers who terrorised a teenage girl before making off with a safe full of cash and valuables.
Patricia Mutedzi and Munyaradzi Jonga, were slapped with hefty jail terms—eight and ten years respectively—after they and two other unidentified accomplices stormed a home in broad daylight, posing as cops.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reports that their victim, an 18-year-old student, was enjoying music in her bedroom when the gang pounced, wielding a pistol. The terrified teen was dragged to her father’s bedroom, where the thugs ransacked the place, eventually finding a safe packed with US$13 000, polished emeralds, gold scales, wristwatches, and important documents.
When she couldn’t provide the key, the merciless criminals forced her to help haul the safe outside. In a shocking twist, one of the robbers restrained her with a rope and handcuffs, leaving her shaken and helpless.
But karma struck hard—detectives tracked the duo down, triggering a dramatic chase that ended with both being shot in the legs before their arrest. A loaded revolver and some stolen loot were recovered, while the safe was later found dumped in Epworth Quarry Dam.
Despite their downfall, their two accomplices remain free, with police citing lack of evidence.
For Mutedzi and Jonga, the message is clear: crime doesn’t pay!
