We are not playing in a ‘Farmers League’ — Bulawayo Chiefs coach

Innocent Kurira, Sports Reporter
AMAKHOSIKAZI coach Evans Netha insists the Southern Region Women’s Soccer league is not a ‘Farmers League’ even though his side has dominated every team they have faced so far in this year’s league campaign.

‘Farmers league’ is a term used in a derogatory way to look down upon a football league that is unfairly dominated by a single top club.

The Bulawayo Chiefs ladies side has gone for ten matches unbeaten, scoring 61 goals and conceding none. They played second placed Loxion Vipers at the weekend and won 3-0.

Their goals came from Nomqhele Donga, Thando Sibanda and Patience Ndlovu, who has now scored 16 goals in this campaign.

“They managed to hold us and we failed to break through their defence as the game progressed. I think we managed to get over it and we then managed to get a goal in the first half.

“Yes, they played well especially in the second half when they were one woman down. I think they played well. We managed to knock the ball around, we managed to identify the spaces in between the opponents,” said Netha

He insists the league is competitive despite his charges rolling over teams.

“The league is competitive. When these teams play against each other we see goals there. It all depends on how you plan for your opponents but this is really a competitive league.

The most important thing is training. I feel we are getting all the support we want from Chiefs which is why we have done well.

“It’s all about doing what you are doing and doing it in the right way. There are a lot of good players out there who are not playing for the Chiefs. What if we qualify for the Premier League and we win again like we are doing? Are we going to say the Premier League is not competitive?,” Netha asked.
