We deserve better!

swarm at anything with a foreign label.
The reason I am talking about this is the rather dismal and not so off the hook Sean Kingston concerts which were staged in the country last week.
Well, when word started passing around that porky American singer-rapper Sean Kingston was going to make some forays to these parts of the world, I just dismissed it as one of those high- sounding nothings.
That time seeing how the show was being organised or advertised, I just thought the fat man wasn’t going to make it as nothing really serious was coming up.
However, last week when word started spreading that the man was going to come on Thursday and the next day I was less sceptic but then my suspicions were raised higher when the man failed to make it on time and the reasons given were rather lame.
I started smelling a rat and the lack of seriousness on the part of the promoters and the MC himself made me have a Plan B in case everything went haywire.
I stuck to my Plan B and from what I gather, I didn’t even miss a single thing as the show was more like playing house, plain “mahumbwe”.
Sean Kingston was never and will never be a serious artiste if his history or discography is anything to go by, and for once I agree with Stunner when he says the man is a high school or college act.
Also, one thing that made me think twice about going to the Sean Kingston shows was his use of the auto tunes and backtracks, which also happen to be the in-thing even in this country.
You know the problem with the auto tunes is, the sound you hear on the disks and the sound that comes out during live shows are two different things.
I think it’s high time promoters start looking at themselves in the mirror and stopped taking people who part with their hard-earned money to come to these shows.
Sean Kingston proved to be one of the worst acts that ever graced our beautiful Zimbabwe and he behaved as if he had come for a holiday and definitely not for business.
A lot of people are busy blaming Sean Kingston for lack of professionalism, but one thing I would like to know is did he even breach his contract at all?
Although Kingston has an attitude and everyone knows it, you can never put the blame on him alone without talking about the promoters.
The promoters didn’t do their homework well and left a lot to be desired with their planning.
In my view, the guys just wanted to make a quick buck without investing much.
Even looking at their supporting acts, it leaves a lot to be desired, why fly B-Kay and Kazz who are non-entities in the country and abroad when there were better local acts?
The promoters would have at least put more emphasis on promoting the up-and-coming acts rather than take risks with one-hit wonders.
Although I’m no big fan of South African music or acts, one thing that I really like about the Mzansi massive is they respect their own and no matter how mediocre they are, they always give each other respect.
I think it’s high time we stop and reflect a little on these foreign acts.
They all come in, boss us around, milk us of our cash and leave without decorum and treat us bad.
We deserve better!
I am beginning to realise that some of these artistes take our goodwill as a sign of weakness and I rally all of you out there to be hardcore the next time a foreign act takes us for a ride.
Still on foreign acts, I am reliably informed that the “enfante terrible of ragga” music Elephant Man, the high-rising Gyptian as well as hip-hopper Mims are set to rock the country at the end of June.
Elephant Man, who happens to be the biggest of the trio, has already confirmed his visit to Zimbabwe on a clip on his website and has promised his fans a hell of a good show during his visit.
I just hope these dudes will come here for business and not think they are on an African safari as we have seen with earlier acts like Sean Kingston, Horace Brown, Tevin Campbell and even the great late Gregory Isaacs.
