MUSICIAN Kelvin Gama has blamed the lack of sponsorship in the music industry for hindering his progress.
The 27-year-old Afro dancehall musician pointed out how difficult it is to penetrate the market without sponsorship.
“We make good music in the ghetto but the problem is that we fail to properly make a name for ourselves because we don’t have finances.
“For you to be recognised you need to properly market yourself and your work.
“When you are still upcoming, you don’t make money from music, therefore, we end up financing our projects from our own pockets,” he said.
Kelvin, who enjoyed rave reviews with the song ‘‘Vakuru Vemangoma’’, spoke about how difficult it is to make ends meet as an upcoming artist.
“I have been making music since 2016 and till this date I don’t have a single hit song.
“It has not been an easy road, I have had to use the money I make from the hustle I do to finance my projects.
“But, I have still failed to get a hit song with all the effort I have put in.
“There is an imbalance between sponsors and music artists, which means we have to work extra hard to get sponsorship.”
He added: “The ghetto is full of talent but we fail to go far because we lack the resources required.”
