NKULUMANE House of Assembly representative Cde Killian Sibanda yesterday held a party to celebrate his victory and thank the electorate for voting him into office last year. Speaking on the sidelines of the celebrations Cde Sibanda said his objective after assuming office was to complement efforts that were initiated by Vice-President Cde Phekezela
Mphoko to resuscitate Bulawayo industries.
He said the proximity of Bulawayo to neighbouring South Africa, the major export route for Zimbabwe, should be used as an added advantage to revive local industry.
“With the ZITF drawing closer, bringing a lot of foreign companies we should use the fair as a launch pad to revive our industries. The improvement of water supply in Bulawayo comes as a plus in our bid to lure investors,” said Cde Sibanda.
He said education was key to development and that he would work closely with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to increase the number of schools in his area. Nkulumane constituency has eight primary schools and two secondary schools, forcing children in the area to travel to other areas for secondary school.
“ln my constituency there are few schools and we should work on building more schools. The majority of people in my constituency are poverty stricken and vulnerable and can’t send their children to school thus we should find a way to accommodate them at the schools that are available”, said Cde Sibanda.
He also warned the electorate against being misled by the opposition. Cde Sibanda won the ticket to represent the areas after beating Alderman Ndlovu during Zanu-PF primary elections to fill in the vacant Nkulumane Constituency seat following the death of Nkulumane legislator Thamsanqa Mahlangu who succumbed to cancer last year.
