THE Chinhoyi Town Council has refuted allegations emanating from some quarters that it is not accepting payment in the local ZiG currency.
Acting town clerk, Engineer Simon Marara, told H- Metro, that the local authority is a government arm that observes provisions of the law.
Marara said reports that the council is not accepting the local currency is news to him.
“ It is coming as news to me. Actually, the government is encouraging the use of the ZiG ahead of other currencies, “ said Marara.
He added.
“I don’t know if there was anyone who was ever denied paying in ZiG,” said Marara.
He, however, said that council’s concern are people, who loiter at Council offices to intercept US$ from residents wanting to pay bills.
Marara urged residents and its stakeholders to pay their rates so that council continues to provide service.
