DEFENDING champions Dynamos have refused to throw in the towel in the title race but conceded that the destiny of the title was no longer in their hands. With one round of matches left, Dynamos are two points behind surprise package ZPC Kariba, sitting on 54 points, the same number of points that won them their third title last year while the electricity men have amassed 56 points.

The Glamour Boys take on How Mine in their last match while ZPC Kariba have a date with Caps United who are already out of running for the title and are guaranteed of a top four finish, regardless of the result.

A draw for ZPC Kariba will take their points tally to 57 and unless something out of the ordinary happens in the Dynamos-How Mine clash in which the Harare giants would have to beat the gold miners by a minimum of five goals without reply, the $70,000 cheque will be handed over to the ZPC Kariba management.

It is almost an identical scenario with the 2013 title charge when Caps United decided the destiny of the title by denying Harare City a win in the last match.

Harare City needed an outright win to end the season on 56 points and lift their maiden championship medal. Like this year, Makepekepe had nothing to play for but the game ended 2-2 while DeMbare clobbered Black Mambas 2-0, leaving the three teams Dynamos, Highlanders and Harare City level on 54 points. Dynamos walked to the winners’ podium by virtue of a better goal difference.

“It’s academically over for us yes, but we still haven’t given up hope. We still believe we can lift the title because in a game of football anything is possible and personally I still believe we’ve a chance,” said Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa in an interview with Chronicle Sport yesterday.

He is also looking forward to lifting his fourth league championship as Dynamos chairman.

Mubaiwa said they will do everything in their power to make sure they maintain their dominance in the competition and are already coming up with motivational measures to psyche up their troops.

“We’re coming up with some incentives that will motivate the boys to remain focused. We’re not only talking of monetary rewards but also talking to them and letting them know what it means to win a fourth league title medal. We’re aware though that the Caps United game has a huge impact on us realising our dream and there’s nothing we can do about that except to hope that our neighbours do us a favour,” said the DeMbare chairman.
