FORMER Warriors striker Wilfred “Silver Fox” Mugeyi believes his South African Absa Premier Soccer League team, AmaZulu, will do better next season. The former Black Aces marksman told Chronicle Sport: “It was a hectic and stressful season but now we will start everything with refreshed minds and I hope the players will come fired up for the pre-season at the end of June.
“We want to prepare well and try to avoid unnecessary mistakes which almost hampered our performance in one of the most lucrative leagues in the world.”
Mugeyi said AmaZulu started on a higher note last season but faded towards the end of the season.
The KwaZulu-Natal based team has been fighting relegation for the past seven years but Mugeyi insists that all will change in the 2014/15 season.
“The team will sign new players, promote youngsters and release those who will not be part of the team’s plans for next season”.
AmaZulu are chasing the services of former national team youth player Patrick Kaunda who scored 20 goals for his Botswana team Satmos FC in the just-ended season.
AmaZulu manager Japhet Zwane said: “It’s true we’re chasing the services of the Zimbabwean striker but at the moment I’m on holiday and I will be back in the office in two weeks time.”
Tapuwa Kapini and Carlington Nyadombo are the Zimbabweans who are currently playing for Usuthu.
Ephraim Mwale and Ramson Zhuwawo are the other Zimbabweans who once turned out for the Durban side.
