ON a weekend filled with dramatic twists and turning points, it was MWOS who stole the spotlight with a commanding statement of intent in the top of the table clash dubbed the Flamboyance Derby.
Billy Veremu’s 67th minute strike proved decisive at a sold-out Ngoni Stadium in Norton, where MWOS edged fellow Premiership newcomers Scottland 1-0 to cement their place at the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings.
The win not only bolstered MWOS’s title credentials but also reasserted their dominance over a side that has shadowed them since their Division One days.
Elsewhere on Matchday 14, Bikita Minerals stunned Herentals 2-0 at Rufaro to end a frustrating six-match winless run. Innocent Masiwa and Tadiwanashe Murasiranwa struck in quick succession early in the second half to deliver a deserved victory for Wilson Mutekede’s side.
At Ascot, Norman Mapeza could breathe again as Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s lone goal secured a 1-0 win for FC Platinum over previously unbeaten TelOne, ending the champions’ four-match winless streak and handing the WiFi Boys their first home loss of the season.
CAPS United break the Sakubva curse In Mutare as they recorded their first win under new coach Ian Bakala by edging Manica Diamonds 1-0. Substitute Craig Matindife’s late goal sealed the points and sent a clear message that the Green Machine may finally be back on track.
At Luveve, frustration continued for Chicken Inn, who were held to a goalless draw by Triangle United. Joey Antipas’ men have now failed to win in seven home matches this season, an unwanted streak for the former champions.
ZPC Kariba quietly claimed a 1-0 win over Yadah at Nyamhunga as they kept themselves in the top half mix, while Yadah’s struggles away from home continued.
Simba Bhora and Ngezi Platinum cancelled each other out in a dull 0-0 draw at Wadzanai, a result that did neither side any real favours in the title chase.
